A yawn escaped the young man's lips as he made his way into the Lab where many Pokemon were, at least he had hoped. Jean looked around to see if there was anyone to help him get his first Pokemon.

"Hello?" his voice seemed to echo for a while in this endless, and large place. Luckily, there was a counter at the beginning, so Jean rested his head on his hand on the desk.

"I wonder what Pokemon I want, and what ones are in stock..." he thought, turning now and having his elbows on the counter, looking around at the Lab, or whatever he could see of it from his location.

"Ush-a-minnuh," came a muffled call from an open door. Hoshi, one of Professor Yurnable's aids, had a budew balanced on a scale and was biting down on a pencil as he mentally recorded its growth. Quickly he jot it down on a nearby file, grabbed the budew up in the crook of his right arm, and paced off into the main reception and filing area. He grinned at another expected trainer, 'twas the season, or so it seemed. "Hello, my name's Hoshi, and I know you're disappointed, but the professor had to tend to some errands, as you can expect, he's a very busy man. Lucky for you though," he continued, hoping he hadn't scared the young man off, "I can still offer you your first pokemon, and get you started." The budew trilled happily, "Budududew!" Hoshi chuckled and shifted his elbow up for a second, bouncing the young pokemon, "Budew is an option, and we have more outside, both budew and pokemon, I mean. We have some eevees left, electrikes, and a poliwag ... would you just like to see the pokepen?" Hoshi finished lamely, rolling his eyes at himself and waving his free hand towards the boy.

Jean quickly got his elbows off the counter and turned around with a smile, "Hah, sure, I'll go see the other Pokemon."

"But for now, let's think of the Pokemon he had already mentioned." he thought as he walked by. Poliwag was the only Water Pokemon he heard, but an Eevee's an Eevee, rare and very cool. It would be such a tough choice, but his starter Pokemon wouldn't necessarily have to be his most favorite or most important... but that is a bad thing to think. Jean's face soured at the thought.

Hoshi nodded, expecting as such. He grazed the boy's shoulder with his free hand as he walked by him and opened the back door. Budew quickly popped out of his arms and ran off with its friends; Hoshi grinned, liking that these estranged pokemon had found so much balance and contentment here. "Well," the aid sighed, leaning against the outside of the doorframe, his arm hooked up so his head rest in his hand, "take your pick ... they're all available, and feel free to snatch up any but the electrikes, you might just want to offer a hand to those guys. Anyway, I'll give you some time; I'll be back inside when you're ready, and will give you your pokedex, pokeballs and trainer card once you've finished."

Hoshi waved a peace sign at the young man, and scrambled back inside, fetching the budew's file and taking a seat in the main reception so the trainer wouldn't have to come looking for him.

"Thank you." Jean said with a smile. He walked closer to the Pokepen. As expected, Poliwag and Eevee caught his attention the most, but it would be a tough decision.

"Well, I want water Pokemon, but I don't think I'd want a Vaporeon..." muttered Jean to himself, watching the Eevee running about happily. He sat there for some time and then nodded to himself, getting up.

"Alright, I know what Pokemon I want." Jean said, a little louder so that the assistant to the Professor could hear him. He walked a little closer to the main counter area, though.

Having barely sat down, Hoshi gave a quick sigh before a soft chuckle. "On my way," he called, clumsily gathering the assortment of items in his arms and plucking a green file off the top of a large pile with his teeth. Once outside, Hoshi dropped the assortment of trinkets into the boy's arms and pulled the file out of his mouth, squinting a little in case this gesture disturbed the trainer. Irrationally, Hoshi thumbed through the file. "I'll have some paperwork for you to fill out before I officially give you the pokemon, there should be a pen in that pile off stuff I ... gave you," Hoshi trailed, embarrassed at how unprofessionally he had outfitted the trainer thus far. "So ... which one'd you pick?" he piped, nodding about the grass.

Jean looked nervously at the paperwork in his hands and chuckled a little.

"Well... I choose the Eevee. I'll want to evolve him into an Espeon or an Umbreon." he answered with a smile on his face. Jean lifted one hand from the paperwork and waved to the Eevee until he stumbled a little and quickly took hold of the paperwork before it all fell out of his hands.

((OOC:: Jean isn't holding paperwork. He's holding pokeballs, a pokedex, a trainer card and a pen. x3))

Hoshi reached out a hand to steady the boy and nodded politely as he balanced the green file in one hand, using his thumb to carefully flip through the pages. He inched out the eevee's form and carefully let go of the pile he had already given the trainer to reach his hand into a basket on the back of the door, retrieving the pokemon's pokeball. Realizing the awkwardness of this juggling act, Hoshi retrieved a variety of the items he had lain on the young man and slowly let himself sink to the grass, certainly staining his lab coat, but that was another matter. The aid encouraged the trainer to join him by tapping the ground and offering the eevee's form on top of the pile for writing stability. "He's an excellent choice," Hoshi crooned, nodding at the eevee who had approached out of curiosity, seeing its pokeball, "and if you'd just fill this out, he'll be all yours."

The form was in clear print on a clean background and certainly could not be misinterpret. It read::

(Oh, I thought you handed him the paperwork.)



Jean handed the paper back to the Gym Assistant.

"Do I need a nickname? I'm not really good with those..." he muttered, watching the Eevee, "but if I need one, I can think of one."

((It's all good, but I'll also add that I'm not a Gym Assistant, I'm a Professor's Aid.))

"No ... Jean," Hoshi assured, finally learning the trainer's name and nodding at the young man with a smile. "No, no, all this is excellent. In fact, now you can start your journey. Kesleworth Forest is just around the bend, and there's plenty of things to do out there ... and not much left for you to do in here," he finished, hinting awkwardly. Hoshi never knew how to dismiss the trainers; he did love getting them started, but he always had work to do.

(Whoops.)

Jean nodded and picked up his new Pokemon, "I guess that's true. Thanks for the Pokemon and everything, bye!" feeling his shoulder would be a nice place for his new Pokemon to stay, Jean waved to the Professor's Aid and excitedly ran off.
