Kia's Intro

"B-but Grandma!" Kia protested.
"Kia, no means no," the elderly Shawna replied. "You need to do this on your own. I've heard that the professor is very nice."
"It's so far away!" she sighed.
"Darling, it's just up the hill," Shawna replied. "If you don't get moving, I'll miss my boat."
"Fine..." Kia whispered, defeated. She began the treck up the steep cliff.

Actually, if she had it her way, her grandmother wouldn't be leaving! It was impossible to tell what could happen on her way up. As she walked, the scar on her left shoulder, given to her from a childhood attacker, started to throb, reminding her of why she didn't want to go alone. The stab had been near fatal, just mere inches from her heart. It never completely healed, it seemed.
Her hair and dress blew with the strong wind. This was the moment she had been dreaming of for years. Now, she was just asking herself, "Why?" Adventure? This was the scariest thing she had done in her entire life!

She was so busy thinking, she didn't even realize she had made the climb without incident until she nearly ran into the door. She cracked it oped and stepped inside.

"H-hello?" her voice cracked.

The Professor sat at a desk, a few metres away from the door. He was busy, scribbling away on a piece of paper. Hearing a small 'bang' he looked up from his studies. Only to see a young girl walk through the door. He scratched the back of his head and stood up, walking over to her. He had short, silvery-grey haird and blue eyes. "Hello," he smiled, bowing his head slightly. "I am Professor Yurnable, your here for a starter pokemon yes? Well, follow me." Turning on his heels, his adam's apple bobbed up and down in his throat. The Professor began to walk past the desk and opened a brown door. Not waiting to see if the young girl would follow.

The door lead to an open field, with many, many pokemon roaming around. He pointed to a seperate pen. "They are the starter pokemon we have in stock, if there are less than two in stock, then we keep them in their pokeball's on a leadge inside. Are you interested in any here?" he asked, grinning slightly as an eevee pounced upon an electrike.

"M-my name's Kia," she offered as she followed him through the door. For some reason, she felt safe around the professor. Unsure if he heard her or not, Kia gazed at the pokemon, standing next to the professor.

One in particular caught her eye. It was a small Eevee, probably smaller than most, sitting off to itself. It looked lonely, but also looked okay with it. She knew that an Eevee was the most diverse pokemon in the world and could evolve into a water pokemon, Vaporeon, one of her personal favorites. But, putting evolution aside, the Eevee intrigued her.

"I would like that Eevee," Kia said, pointing at it. "May I have it?"

"Thats a load off my chest." The Professor smiled, looking towards the relatively small eevee. He never thought anyone would want it, and he would have to sell it or something. He opened the door of the pen and closed it behind him. He walked over to the dog-like pokemon and picked it up gently in his arms, its brown fur brushing against his white coat. Professor Yurnable carried it over to Kia who stood on the other side of the fence. He opened the gate a joined her by her side. "Here she is," he said, handing her the eevee. "Take care of her while I go and get the forms you must fill out." As quick as a flash, the Professor dashed back into the the laboratory to gather a few papers.

Kia just stared at the Eevee that was so quickly thrust in her arms. As soon as they made eye contact, they knew they were perfect for eachother.

"I'm Kia," she said softly to the pokemon. She sat down by a wall. "I can tell you don't have any friends." The pokemon's ears dropped with saddness. "But that's okay. Neither do I. See this?" Kia pulled the neck of her dress down just far enough to reveal her scar. "I was stabbed when I was five. I really don't like other people that much."

She looked down at the Eevee in her lap. It looked up at her, like it understood everything she had said. It nuzzled her chest.

"You must be the runt of your family," she continued on. "I guess, in a way, so am I. My big sister's a beautiful coordinator. She won the Jhoto Grand Festival last year. I'm just Kia."

"Ev! Eevee! Vee vee!" the Eevee went on, as if it was telling her it's life story.

Professor Yurnable came back out of the laboratory with a few papers in his hand and a pen. "Here," he said, showing them to Kia and her eevee. "Just fill out these and she is yours." The Professor also handed her three regular pokeballs, a trainer ID card and a pokedex. "I suppose you know how to use these?" He asked.

Kia shyly nodded and accepted the papers. She filled them out; they weren't exactly difficult. They just asked simple question like name, age, and the likes.

"How about I call you Vee?" she asked the dog-like pokemon.

"Eevee! Ee!" it replied with glee.

"Thank you, professor!" Kia smiled as she handed the papers back. "I've watched my sister use pokeballs before, so I'm good!" Kia stood up and left the laboratory, much more confident than when she went in.
